The group of companies SGP POMGRAD is a group of associated companies through ownership, of which the parent (controlling) corporation is SGP POMGRAD d.d. All the subsidiary companies of this group are specialising in specific work in a broad range of construction activities. So we can supply the market with practically every service in the field of building construction, which means that we carry out all kinds of building and civil engineering works, where we explicitly want to highlight our own know-how and experience in the field of ecology and geotechnical works. We are engaged in the production of primary construction materials as well as in project engineering, production and fitting of all types of industrial units made of reinforced-concrete elements. Within the group we also undertake road and water course maintenance as well as winter services. All these enable us to quickly adapt to market requirements or individual investors. Our own raw material base and our own production facilities give us a high degree of independence over price conditions in the market of primary construction materials.
For performing such a multitude of activities we employ about 650 workers, the vast majority of whom are from the local population. All this points to a very strong integration of the SGP POMGRAD Group into the social environment of this part of the Republic of Slovenia, which is understandable, as building construction is a sector that has been present in this region for decades. The beginnings of the present SGP POMGRAD Group reach back as far as 1946, when a local constructing company was founded and which has since been transformed several times through various economic systems, joined or separated with the then various different economic operators. Its strongest period in the former State was achieved in the ‘80s of the previous century, when it was part of the Konstruktor Maribor Group and later under the name SGP Pomurje operating throughout the whole territory of the former Yugoslavia. It was especially strong at constructing reinforced-concrete industrial units for the needs of agricultural and other production. A too large an attachment to the Yugoslav markets though took its toll, so after the break-up of Yugoslavia the loss of these markets affected SGP Pomurje of that time and as a result it found itself in great difficulties and just managed to escape from ruin. An important turning point in the history of this company was in 1998, when SGP POMGRAD was taken over by the INTERING Group, which has rescued the company from bare survival and at the same time by a new market approach and by introducing new modes of thinking has set the foundations for the progress of the SGP POMGRAD Group to its present form.
The SGP POMGRAD Group strengthens its market position year after year, as we are participating in all large projects in the region, be it projects in the field of ecology or construction of the Slovenian motorway network. As we wish to upgrade existing conditions by quality and quantity, so is our vision incorporated into the vision of the new Slovenian construction holding company, into which the SGP POMGRAD Group is entering as one of the founding partners. This means that in such a way we want to become suitably prepared for participation in the foreign markets of South-East Europe, especially in the area of building construction in the field of ecology and energy supply. To become competitive in these markets is also one of the fundamental objectives of the SGP POMGRAD Group. However, because this is only achievable through quality work, business efficiency and above all with adequate human resources, we are paying particular attention to employee training, and at the same time we are giving young, promising staff the opportunity to prove themselves.
But irrespective of whether we have proven ourselves many times, situations that arise and unpredictable events in the world of business again continue to point out to us that we can only be commercially successful if we are led by values such as professional competence, quality, consistency, competitiveness, fairness, ambition and of course being open to new ideas and gaining knowledge.
